Yesterday was interesting. was a new place – upstairs in the room next to the library.
The guy taking us was a tenor saxophonist – who spent a long time coaching us in a new tune! It was a sitar/indian style progressive unison melody. This was quite exciting as I’d always been interested in the harmonic styling of Indian ragas.
The piece itself was interesting however it took some real practice to actually learn it into the fingers.
I spent quite a long time afterward translating the recording into a sheet music verse. I have great plans to translate it into sibelius format. Still in progress….
12 Bar-Blues – With Simon. There was so much fun with the jazz improvisation. There was a real camaraderie and support between the players as we played the new/orleans/west african groove. Although once again this took quite a long time to learn the chamber music made was really fun . Simple but nice.
Relearning the Balkan piece – with joe.
It’s getting ready for the concert tomorrow! We might have to practice very hard to memorise but this will only be repetition.
